Police Service Aids Save the Day for Passenger at SFO

Police Service Aids (PSA) recently provided life-saving assistance to a sick passenger in Harvey Milk Terminal 1(HMT1).

On the evening of August 28th, 2023, PSAs responded to reports of a man in the Arrivals Level of HMT1 who was ill and having difficulty breathing.  Once on the scene, PSA Christopher O’Brien instructed PSA Raymond Cheung to retrieve an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device while PSA O’Brien started administering CPR.

As additional PSAs arrived on the scene, PSA O’Brien continued administering CPR until the man was successfully revived.

Police Service Aids work under the San Francisco Police Department and provide traffic control, customer service, and security at the courtyards and airfield checkpoints.  PSAs are one of the first lines of defense for any incidents that takes place in the terminals and are often the first to arrive on the scene of any emergencies.  There are approximately 160 Police Service Aides and 15 Police Service Aide Supervisors currently working at SFO.

SFO would like to recognize PSAs O’Brien and Cheung for their heroic and exemplary work.  It is believed that, due to their fast action and determination, the passenger’s life was saved.
