How did you feel when you found out you were activated as a DSW?
I definitely had a case of nerves, as I didn’t know what was expected of me as a DSW. However, during my assignment, the uncertainty subsided.
What were your DSW tasks?
I was assigned to the Pier 30/32 Testing site for a three-week assignment. DSW staff were provided masks and other PPE equipment. I was there to verify people had appointments, that they were healthcare/city workers, and directed people to the appropriate areas for testing. Some days were very busy and I rotated at various checkpoints.
What do you want fellow employees to know about serving as a DSW?
People there are doing good work. It’s great to know that you’re helping in some way during this crisis. There were a lot of good folks working the sites. Although my assignment was only for three weeks, some people have been working their DSW assignments for months.
It was a smooth operation and I would do it again, but I’d like the opportunity to request a certain task – such as delivering meals to those in need.
