Courageous Conversation Speaker Series

This unique speaker series was created to inspire dialogue, Airport community engagement, and learning as it relates to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Guest speakers are asked to share their personal stories to address inclusiveness issues that are prevalent in today’s workforce including, but not limited to ethnicity, religion, gender identity or expression, sex, race, and generational biases. Speakers include:

  • Congresswoman Jackie Speier, San Francisco
  • San Francisco Treasurer Jose Cisneros
  • San Francisco Assessor/Recorder Carmen Chu
  • Former San Francisco Board of Supervisor Member Katy Tang 
  • Former Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Department of Housing & Urban Development, Roberta Achtenberg


DEI’s Noontime Knowledge Workshops

These employee workshops and panel discussions focus on diversity and social issues impacting the lives of our employees and their families. 

Workshops have included speakers from the San Francisco Latino Historical Society, the GBLT Historical Society, the Mayor’s Office of Transgender Issues, the San Francisco African American Arts & Cultural Society, and the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition. Panel discussions have included Airport Commissioner Everett Hewlett and California State Board of Equalization member Malia Cohen discussed Disrupting Racial Inequity & Ways to Work Toward Systemic Change, a discussion led by Airport Commissioner Malcolm Yeung, and included Self-Help for the Elderly President and COO, Anni Chung, small business leader David Lei, and Cynthia Choi, executive Director of Chinese for Affirmative Action, and a discussion of issues facing the Latino and Hispanic communities featuring Brenda Storey, Executive Director of the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, Miguel Bustos, Senior Director for Glide’s Center for Social Justice, and Santiago “Sam” Ruiz, executive Director of the Mission Neighborhood Center.
