Did you know that SFO’s Green Business Program was created in partnership with San Francisco and San Mateo Counties to offer no-cost support to Airport tenants in areas of energy and water conservation,  waste reduction,  pollution prevention and cost reduction?  In return, our Green Business Program helps the Airport to achieve its campus-wide environmental goals of creating a healthier environment for the Airport’s guests and employees.

Did you know that Hong Kong Airlines will start new non-stop service from SFO to Hong Kong (HKG) on March 25th and will be operated by its brand-new Airbus A350?  The fuel-efficient widebody aircraft features a total of 334 seats, with 33 in Business Class, 108 in Economy Comfort and 193 in Economy Class.   Flights will operate 4 times per week.

Did you know that, in an effort to reduce delays, SFO implemented a Simultaneous Offset Instrument Approach (SOIA) in 2005? Using Precision Runway Monitor (PRM) technology, this procedure allows two aircraft to approach the parallel runways from offset angles. The result allows for improved arrival performance during applicable periods of low clouds and fog.

Did you know that not all countries observe Daylight Savings Time (DST), and that airlines have to adjust their schedules accordingly when changing times.  Additionally, in the US, neither Hawaii or Arizona adjust for DST.

Did you know that March is Women's History Month, a designation first passed by Congress in 1987?  To commemorate this, on March 28, 1988, just the second official Women’s History Month, an all-female Air Force flight crew flew a Lockheed C-5 Galaxy across the Atlantic Ocean to commemorate the month.

Did you know that San Francisco International Airport has been featured in a number of films thorughout the years?  Some of the more famous ones include Bullitt (1968), Magnum Force (1973), High Anxiety (1977) and, more recently, Godzilla (2014) and Steve Jobs (2015).

Did you know that San Francisco and SFO have traditionally been a frequent destination for sitting US Presidents?  Bill Clinton was the most frequent visitor to San Francisco during his presidency, with 21 trips.  An exception was George W. Bush, who never visited San Francisco during his presidency.

Did you know that February 16th marks the start of the Lunar New Year?  Each Lunar New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac - and 2018 is the Year of the Dog.  To celebrate, the Wag Brigade will be appear in festive costumes in the main hall of the International Terminal from 9am to 3pm.  A special photo booth will be set up and employees are encouraged to stop by and take a photo or selfie.

Did you know that Jill Elaine Brown became the first African American woman to serve as a pilot for a major U.S airline when she was hired by Texas International Airlines at the age of 28? Her passion for flying began as a teenager, leading her into the U.S. Navy flight training program where she became its first African American female trainee in 1974.

Did you know that SFO’s Office of Economic and Community Development interfaces with hundreds of local community organizations, schools, and job fairs to advertise SFO internships and expose young people to the many careers available at our airport? This includes attending 50+ events at school, college, and community-based organizations in the past year to recruit interns for the great mentorship and training opportunities offered here at SFO.
