Did you know that, at SFO, two parallel runways are oriented in the east-west direction (designated “10-28”) and are intersected by two parallel runways oriented in the north-south direction (designated “1-19”)? Taxiways parallel to each runway and dual parallel taxiways around the perimeter of the passenger terminal area allow aircraft to maneuver between the runways, terminal areas, and support area aprons.

Did you know that Thirty percent of the Airport’s greenhouse gas emissions are associated with passenger and employee commute travel on public roads? SFO’s journey to carbon neutrality requires partnerships with its passengers and employees to choose transportation alternatives. Alternate transit choices include Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), SamTrans buses, Caltrain, highway coaches, carpooling, biking, or even walking.

Wetlands provide multiple functions including playing an essential role in adaptation and resilience; providing regulation of water flow; controlling flood and erosion; filtering pollutants and fertilizers; transforming nutrients; recharging groundwater; and providing a habitat for numerous plants and animals.

Did you know that aircraft altitude is generally determined by the distance from the landing or takeoff runway? The closer the aircraft is to the runway, the lower the altitude. Arriving aircraft tend to descend at a fixed angle of 3 degrees, while the angle of ascent for departing aircraft is a function of aircraft type, weight, air temperature and wind speed.
