New Sterile Area Badge

In order to comply with TSA requirements about unaccounted Airport ID badges, effective September 16, 2015, the Airport began rebadging all Sterile (blue) badges.  The replacement badge is gray in color, the photo of the badge holder is displayed on the right hand side and the expiration date is one year from the birthdate of the badge holder or one year from the most recent Authorized Signatory training (if applicable).  Employees currently holding a Sterile (blue) badge must visit the Security Access Office (SAO) between September 16, 2015 and January 18, 2016 to have their badge reissued.

Please bring the following items with you:

  1.     a completed badge application with a check mark indicated in the box next to “change badge type”.
  2.     two forms of valid ID; one to verify identity and the other to validate authorization to work in the U.S.
  3.     the appropriate fee:
    • $25 badge re-issuance fee for the replacement badges.
    • $60 badge renewal fee for new badges that are issued for one year. New badges will be issued with the same expiration date as existing badges, except if a badge is due to expire within 30 days of the badge reissuance.  If the badge is due to expire within 30 days of the visit to the SAO, the applicant may complete a full badge renewal.

If the badge holder is responsible for payment, they must first visit the SAO Cashier’s Office to pay the fee.  Once the fee is paid, they will be issued a receipt to bring to the badging office along with items 1 and 2 above.  Please note that only checks and credit cards are accepted.

Please note that between September 16, 2015 through January 18, 2016, SFO will have two versions of the Sterile badge; the new gray badge and the existing blue badge.  Please be aware of this when challenging individuals who are not displaying their Airport ID badge.  Please see PDF iconASB 2015-08 New Sterile Area Badge for an example of the gray and blue badges.
