Make a Difference by Helping People in Need During the Covid-19 Crisis

The MVP Committee is committed to caring for our fellow Airport employees and neighboring community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Help make a difference by getting involved in the following ways.

As we successfully launched the sewing of face masks for Airport employees to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we would like to continue this effort through our “Hooked on Helping” Program launched by the Airport’s Motivating Volunteer Participation (MVP) Committee in 2015. The purpose of this program is to combine people’s passion for knitting and crocheting with their desire to help people in need. We are now calling our knitters and crocheters to make face mask adapters for our heroic frontline health care workers to take the strain off their ears from wearing a face mask for extended periods of time. SFO’s Medical Clinic and the City’s Laguna Honda Hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and health clinics will benefit from these donations. Don’t know how to knit or crochet, but still want to help? You can participate by donating supplies (e.g., soft yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, buttons, etc.). To obtain knitting and crocheting patterns and a supply needs list, or if you have any questions about this initiative, please e-mail the MVP Committee at or call Hazelle Fernandez at 650.821.2881.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley provides meals to vulnerable members of our community. Demand for food has significantly increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can help this non-profit organization to continue to provide meals and services by donating directly to them through their website
