California Coastal Cleanup Volunteer Opportunities

Join the SFO community for the Airport’s first ever California Coastal Cleanup Day event!

Each year, more than 60,000 volunteers across California come together on Coastal Cleanup Day to pick up thousands of pounds of recyclables and trash from beaches, lakes, and waterways. Since the first Coastal Cleanup Day in 1985, the event has helped bring awareness to the issues of ocean pollution and wildlife conservation.

Date:                      Friday, September 20, 2019
Time:                      8:30am - 12:30pm
Meeting Place:     Courtyard G
Location:               Shore behind the Mel Leong Treatment Plant

Transportation, snacks and lunch will be provided. Please help reduce waste by bringing your own reusable bottle for water or coffee.

Battle for the Bay Volunteer Challenge:
SFO will also participate in a cleaning and greening competition led by San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff on Saturday, September 21, 2019. The mayors are leading volunteers from their cities to face off in a challenge to protect our treasured Bay by cleaning and greening our neighborhoods and combatting illegal dumping. Showcase SFO’s support by attending the kick-off event in San Francisco with Mayor Breed from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Warm Water Cove at the end of 24th Street. Let us collectively declare San Francisco the winner!

How to Volunteer:
If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail the MVP Committee at sfomvp@flysfo.com by Friday, September 13, 2019. Prior supervisor approval is required for the September 20 event. If you have questions, please contact Hazelle Fernandez at 650.821.2881 or hazelle.fernandez@flysfo.com.

This Airport event is jointly hosted by the MVP Committee, Sustainability & Environmental Policy, Environmental Affairs, and Environmental Operations.
