With the evolving nature of COVID-19, the priority of our Airport is to keep our passengers and employees safe. I want to thank each of you for your hard work and flexibility during this turbulent time.
I also want to personally assure you that we are taking all appropriate actions to ensure to the health and wellbeing of our SFO Team.
Information on Safety & Health
SFO has issued guidance to all employees on how to keep you and your family safe that follows guidelines and recommendations from the San Francisco Health Department and the Center for Disease Control. We are working closely with our Airlines, Concessionaires and Service Providers to ensure we are properly coordinated and taking all necessary steps and precautions to ensure the safety of everyone who works at the Airport, as well as the travelling public.
Visit SFO Connect/covid-19-information for the most updated information.
Extra Diligence in the Airport
Over the past two weeks, we have begun disinfecting our facilities at a level never seen before. This includes increasing the cleaning of all touchpoints with a federally-approved disinfectant and adding dozens of additional hand-sanitizers throughout the Airport – we now have nearly 350 in place. And, for the foreseeable future, a “triage” team is walking daily through the Airport to ensure enhanced cleaning measures are implemented, that tenants are doing their part, and as an additional resource for our passengers with questions and concerns.
Constant Monitoring & Adjusting
Given that the situation continues to evolve, we have initiated an SFO COVID-10 Action Plan and have scheduled daily meetings with SFO leadership and key personnel to continue to update our response to the crisis and track the implementation of all related initiatives. Our goals are to:
- Reduce to the extent possible the impact of the virus on our travelers, employees and businesses;
- Ensure the continued full operation of SFO during this period;
- And, be prepared to quickly move back into accommodating full levels of passenger and flight operations when the situation improves.
In these daily meetings, we are tracking our safety and prevention measures to ensure their effectiveness and make adjustments when necessary.
Essential Services & Expenditures
With the uncertainty of how long this will last, we are suspending all non-essential expenditures at this time so we can focus on delivering a high level of service. This includes new hires and travel and training. We have convened a team to look at other cost-saving measures. While we remain very busy as an organization, this gives us an opportunity to accomplish more in maintenance, construction and other areas, and to prepare us for a quick return to normal operations as soon as possible.
Regular Updates for Employees
All updates will be communicated to employees through two channels:
- SFO Connect/COVID-19-information – a special, new COVID-19 page with updated information about prevention and workplace initiatives, like the Temporary Telecommuting program. Check this page daily for updates.
- All-employee SFO Announcements – we will issue these weekly (or as needed) for the foreseeable future directly to your email.
Please do not hesitate to talk to your supervisor or manager about questions or concerns you may have.
Finally, I am so proud of our team and your response to this crisis. As the situation continues to evolve, we will keep you informed about the adjustments we will be making to weather this storm and protect our SFO community.
